Cross, one of 137 around the world, risen at Cross Church in Sandstone

June 23, 2017

A twenty-four foot high cross was raised on Friday, June 16th at the Cross Church in Sandstone. This cross is the 137th cross, among crosses put up all around the world, by Bill and Carol Mantel of Christian Cyber Ministries. The cross was paid for through donations to Bill Mantel’s daily devotional online ministry. Other crosses, similar to this one, have been planted in Africa, Asia, South America and other areas in North America. The most recent and local one was placed at Cambridge Christian School.

The cross is made of aluminum tubes welded into place and stretching 10 feet wide, with a six foot deep concrete footing. Bill Mantel said that the material was chosen because it is lightweight, very strong and maintenance free. The majority of the 137 crosses are aluminum.

“This is our 137th Cross planted around the world, since my healing,” said Bill Mantel referring to a spinal injury he suffered in an auto accident. “We met Pastor Darren Sedler when we planted a Cross at the Cambridge Christian School. He asked for a Cross at his church in Sandstone. Pastor Darren and The Cross Church and its members are an inspiration of hope. Their Thursday night dinners open to the entire public along with practical Biblical teaching demonstrates the love of Jesus. You are a blessed community to have them here.”

Congregation member Lucy Hansen said of the cross raising event, “I think it’s awesome and am glad I took the time to come and watch.”

“We are very grateful to Pastors Bill and Carol at Christian Cross Ministries, their encouragement and support, and gift of the new cross,” said Pastor Darren Sedler of the Cross Church.
